Fire and Ice

When you've worked all day and you're thinking to yourself,

"It'll be so nice to collapse in my nice warm bed",

think again......

No rest for the weary when it's 18 degrees

and you have a grove full of ripe fruit.

It's time for the fire to melt the ice!!Of course all the pyromaniacs that live in this house do not mind at all.

They can get sleep some other time. Trying to get feeling back into their hands.

It has gotten this cold in Florida before,

but only for 1 or 2 days this low, that we can remember.

We had over a week of this kind of weather and

the strange thing was, even during the day with full sun,

the ice was still frozen,

which means with all the effort.......
and a huge lack of sleep....

and lots of fire......
and shivering bodies....

the fruit did eventually freeze, anyway.

(Just not enough man power or heaters for that many days.)
But,

we did have fun while it lasted.

It's sad about the fruit, but that's how farm life is.
There's always next year.

Our Creator God is still in control of it all, Hallelujah.

I didn't realize it got that cold? Are you sure about 18 degrees?? Or was it 28??
I know we were around 28 degrees here. Anyway, you made a valiant effort to save the fruit!
The trees will be ok, right?

Sounds like fun... for the kids -- I'll snuggle in the nice warm bed though!

Love,
Molly

Hello Pollock family!

It was wonderful to be able to finally meet y'all in December! :) We really enjoyed our visit to central FL.

I didn't realize that it got so cold that far south! We've certainly had some unusually cold weather this year. The ice covered the ground, frozen hoses on cow troughs, and numb hands and feet make one appreciate the warmer, sunnier days. :)

Hope that y'all have a wonderful New Year. God Bless!

Molly, It did get 18 degrees, multiple nights here. We are in a cold pocket, so are temps. are usually consistant with Brooksville. We couldn't believe it either, until we looked at thermometers at two other homes close to ours and they were all the same.

I'm like you, I'll enjoy my warm and cozy bed.

We're not sure about the wood on the trees, but it's looking like it'll be ok with alot of pruning.

Love you,
Tina

So sorry that after all that work, sleepless nights, burning bales etc, that you still lost the crop.

Yes, that's how farming goes, but isn't it great to know that nothing surprises God or is beyond His control. Faithfulness...ahhhhh

It looks like you are not used to the cold, I wonder why. I am very sorry to hear about your orchards, does this mean no more fruit for the whole year? Oh how terribly sad but we must remember that the Lord allowed it to happen. I guess we won't be visiting you, no fruit, no visit. Just kidding You all deserve three cheers for the hard work anyways, Hoorary! Hooray! Hooray!
Missing you~
Hillary
BTW: It was down to 2 deg. about a week ago. No worries, it's warmer now:0) around 34 deg

Wow. Looks like yall had some worries there! We were worried about the grove over here, but I don't think we lost too much (well, I saw "we". I mean Granddaddy. Lol.) It didn't get 18 here, but it did get 21. :) It was COLD!!!!!

I'm sorry for the sleep lost, but I imagine they had a great time anyhow. :-P Any reason for a (or a few) good fires, "eh?" :) :) ;-)

I hope yall didn't lose much!! :(

Love,
~Kitty~

So sorry you lost your crop!!! But, as I'm learning more and more, God is faithful and will ever take care of His own! The fires looked fun although the lack of sleep didn't sound too appealing. : ) Ray said you should have called a ladies' meeting. : ) I guess he was referring to all the hot air..... : ) Brothers!!!! : )

It does seem foreign to us Tarheels to think of any crop being ripe in January....but then, I'm sure it's foreign for you to think of the temperature dropping to 18 ever! : ) Whew!!! THAT"S COLD!!!!

May the Lord bless you!
